Hi Mahmud - got your weblog link from your notice to the Mills community. I, too was at the Laila Lalami reading; this conversation about what language to write in matters to me in that when I write about my Lebanese relatives (or other Arab characters speaking in Arabic), I'm translating my child-like comprehension of Arabic into English. Argh.

Just thought I'd say hello. Since I started grad school I've quit blogging, and actually feel quite stupid and mute online. But I feel obliged to say hello to a fellow blogger whom I meet in person as well as in cyberspace. I hope I can make it over to the city for your reading but with my family responsibilities (two small boys & a husband) it may be difficult. Good luck!
